Random Encounters: Chinese Go Match

Random Encounter: Coming across an interesting subject, scene, or situation that isn’t significant in a journalistic or tourist sense but deserves more than a single snapshot to record.

Like many urban parks in the US, many city parks in Taiwan serve as a gathering place for neighborhood residents to play board games. In many cases this means Chinese Go. I guess the best “Western” comparison to Go would be to Orthello…Orthello is like a “special needs” version of Go

I was hanging around Beitou park in the Beitou district of Taipei last weekend and came across this rather long and complex game being fought by two veterans. And the late afternoon lighting was awesome.

Next week, another Beitou park encounter.
